Sue (she/her) is a thoughtful and reflective leader who believes in collaboration and improvement. Her extensive experience as an executive working in the education public sector means she understands the complex issues in public service, including how to listen, how to bring a strategic plan to life and how to improve an organization. Sue has worked alongside a wide variety of communities including Indigenous leaders, racialized groups, and people who identify as LGBTQIA+ and has experience in governance of non profit boards both local and national.
Most recently, Sue served as Interim and Associate Director of Education in Hamilton. These roles expanded her ability and commitment to listening to understand and then implementing a vision for results. Her current role as an independent consultant allows her to use these skills to assist individuals and organizations.
Sue moved to Hamilton 35 years ago and it’s become her beloved hometown. The energy and quirkiness of the city inspires her. Sue believes in Hamilton and its people. Serving in the non profit sector to support Compass Community Health is inspiring and meaningful to Sue as the agency makes a difference to so many lives.
Identity matters, and so Sue shares that she is a cisgender, queer, white woman with a settler background. Some of these identities afford her great privilege, and some have shown her what barriers feel and look like and what inclusion and affirmation really mean. Sue holds space for all voices, challenges and unlearns her colonial, white supremacist worldview, and is guided by those with lived experience. She honours the spirit of the Two Row Wampum, a covenant that we are all treaty people. Sue commits to ongoing and learning and action in her journey as an anti-racist and to advancing these values and approaches in all that she does.
